This week we’re using the grill in some unconventional ways, and it’s been amazing! I get tired of grilling the usual things..chicken, burgers, steaks, etc., so we’re trying something different! It’s been so hot here lately, cooking outside has been a must.
Don’t miss Part 1 of the “You Can Grill That??” series: Smoky Fire Roasted Salsa. Now for part 2: A reuben sandwich! Because, why NOT throw your sandwiches on the grill??
Wrap these bad boys up tightly with foil and place right on the grill. Depending on how hot your grill is, it should only take a few minutes on each side. Be careful, they are going to be hot, melty, and delicious!
What you’ll need..
Some really good bread (You’re supposed to use rye or marbled rye)
Sliced provolone or swiss cheese (Don’t skimp on the cheese, please)
Thousand island dressing
Sauerkraut
Good deli pastrami
Butter
What you’ll do..
Butter the outsides of your sandwich. On the inside, spread thousand island on both slices of bread, add the cheese on BOTH sides of the sandwich, load ’em up with a good amount of pastrami and sauerkraut. Then wrap them up and place on the grill like we discussed. Wait until they are nice and hot and melted. They are going to be DELISH.
You could try this with any kind of grilled sandwich..turkey BLT’s, chicken with tomato, mozzarella and basil (that’s what I’m trying next…) or even French dips! The best part…there’s almost no clean up!
Try this when company comes over. You can make up sandwiches ahead of time (I’d just leave off ingredients that would make them soggy), and when you’re about ready to eat, toss them on the grill. You won’t have to spend time prepping OR cleaning up while your company is there!
