I am stuck in a serious rut when it comes to coffee, and I’m totally ok with it. I like my morning beverage the way I like it. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to get fancy every now and then and try something different, especially when that means experimenting with a coffee drink that fits with the current season! While brainstorming with my mom, trying to come up with a coffee drink that would feel like fall, we thought, “well who wouldn’t like their coffee to taste like creme brûlée?!” So, here you have it!

Obviously, you have to start with espresso to make a latte. There are various ways you can go about it, and I would recommend using a stove top espresso maker. Get yourself a good one, and check out my post on how to use it properly. In a pinch, you could also use espresso powder. I’ve done a little research on this, and one that has great reviews is Cafe Bustelo instant espresso powder. I just ordered some on Amazon, I’ll let you know what I think. I’m actually really excited, because I think it’s the same brand of coffee that I saw several times being served in Puerto Rico, and it was really delicious.
I don’t like my coffee super sweet, even when I’m having a treat like this. You can sweeten it up a little if you want with some whipped cream on top, an extra pump of syrup, or even some extra caramel sauce.
Anyway, here’s what we did to create this little beauty..
Start with one pump of Torani Vanilla Syrup and one pump of Torani Caramel sauce in a coffee mug. THIS is the combo that makes it taste like creme brûlée!
Make your 2 shots of espresso in whatever way you see fit. (I’ll share a little secret with you..sometimes I buy a quad espresso from my favorite coffee shop and put it in the fridge. In the morning, I take half of it, add some milk and ice, and have an iced latte, just the way I like it! You could always do this as an easy way to practice making coffee drinks to your liking without getting too fancy making the actual espresso.)
Add your two shots of hot espresso to your syrups and stir to dissolve. Heat up 8 oz. of whole milk. (I guess if you really want to, use something besides whole milk, but I mean…it’s supposed to taste like dessert here.) You can do this on the stove in a sauce pan, in the microwave, or in an actual milk steamer like this one. The milk steamers are especially great because you’ll get foam! Just be careful not to scald the milk if you’re using the stove top or microwave method.
Add your milk to the espresso and syrup mixture. No need to stir! Add foam on top if you’ve got it. Add whipped cream if you’ve got that! And don’t feel too bad if from now on, you drink this every day..
(If you’re wondering why the latte in the picture looks so pretty, it’s because my mom and I took a latte art class! For real! Look around in your area to see if any coffee roasters offer it..it was so fun, and it made a great Christmas gift for her last year! I don’t have the super expensive, professional equipment to recreate that gorgeous looking latte at home, but it’s fun to try recreating the taste. 🙂
