Today, October 15th, is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. This is an issue that is close to my heart, and I feel honored to share this story of the precious time that Nicholas Dean Riehl spent on this earth. The following was written by his mom, Kathleen Riehl, and is being shared in hopes of raising awareness of this topic and honoring the memory of their son. The intensity of their courage, their pain, and their love is breathtaking. Please join me in embracing parents like Jim and Kathleen and their family, and remembering children like Nicholas by breaking the silence and letting them know that they are not alone. I know that in writing this, it is Kathleen’s hope that their story will touch other parents and families who need to hear it, who need to know that they are not alone, that they are not forgotten and neither are their precious little ones.

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. This awesome design of a Momma and Baby Fox was created by Kathleen Riehl of Bloom and Grow Designs. Kathleen and her husband Jim started their shop that features incredible custom designs, jewelry, and other wooden creations in memory of their precious son Nicholas Dean, who left this world a little over one year ago after his courageous fight in the NICU. This dinner recipe is as simple as it is versatile. It works well with whatever kind of vegetables you happen to have. I typically use pre-cooked Italian sausage, but this time I happened to have leftover bratwursts from a barbecue and it turned out just as good. Last week, a series of unfortunate events in the garage involving our bbq/smoker tipping over, spilling hot, smoking pellets everywhere culminated in 2 displaced fractures in my husbands right hand. After our daughter was born a little over 2 years ago, I was fortunate enough to take 5 months away from work. As maternity leave started dwindling away, panic set in. (You know what I’m talking about, moms. I can’t be the only one who has frantically googled ‘work from home’ in the middle of the night.) Even though my mom would be the one caring for her while I was away, countless concerns rattled through my head. What if she won’t take a bottle while I’m away?
